Dear Parent/Guardian,

I have great pleasure in announcing that The English Martyrs Geography department is offering a trip to Sicily departing Friday, 22nd May 2020 and returning Tuesday, 26th May 2020.

The cost of the trip is provisionally £850, subject to flight cost.  This price includes:

  • UK coach transfers
  • Return flights to Sicily including checked in luggage
  • A hot traditional meal on arrival
  • 4 nights’ accommodation, bed, breakfast and evening meal
  • Cabin Lift and 4×4 Minibuses to the summit of Mount Etna
  • Full day excursion to Etnaland
  • Coach excursion to Strait of Messina and Tindari Lakes
  • Pizza making master class
  • Evening activities
  • Fully comprehensive insurance
  • A personalized memento of the trip
  • Evening entertainment
  • And much more

In order to travel, students must have their own valid passport and a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).   The medical insurance cards can be obtained online (for free) if you do not already have one.   Please note that passports will be required in school in September to enable a copy to be taken and the essential information to be provided to the travel company.

There is a maximum of 50 places available; these places will be offered by random selection. Students who are not initially selected will be listed as reserves.  Places are available to all students currently in Year 8.  Spaces are also available to students currently in Years 9 and 11 who have selected to study Geography as a GCSE or A level. 

If you wish for your child to be considered, please complete the reply slip below by Friday, 5th July 2019.  If your child is selected a non-refundable deposit of £200 will be required to be paid as soon as possible and no later than Wednesday, 17th July 2019.

Reservation of a place on this trip is dependent upon the continued good behaviour and attitude of your child.  Due to the nature of the trip and safety regulations, only students who can be trusted to behave impeccably will be allowed to go.

When you submit the reply slip below the information will be sent to us, we hold all the submissions until the closing date of Friday 5th July.  The students will then be selected and successful applicants will be added to Parent Pay for deposits to be paid.

The payment schedule for the trip is as follows:

  • 17th July (deposit) – £ 200
  • 27th September – £150
  • 31st October – £150
  • 31st January – £150
  • 28th February – £200

Total – £850

The balance can be paid off in full if preferred, or alternative instalments can be made, but please contact Mr Nicholson or Sarah Tait in the school finance office first to make these arrangements

If your child is successful in gaining a place, but then has to withdraw, any money paid can only be returned if this is due to exceptional circumstances or his/her place is filled by another student.

Parents who can prove they are in receipt of the following benefits will be exempt from paying the cost of board and lodgings for educational trips within the school term time:

  • Income Support;
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance;
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
  • Child Tax Credit, provided that Working Tax Credit is not also received and the family’s income (as assessed by the Inland Revenue) does not exceed £16,190.
  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
