I have great pleasure in announcing that The English Martyrs Spanish Department is offering a school trip to Barcelona departing Thursday 4th July from English Martyrs at at 10:00 and would return to English Martyrs on Sunday 7th July at 02:00.

During the trip, students will have the opportunity to engage in a number of fun and cultural activities whilst putting their language skills into practice.  Students will only need a small amount of spending money.

The cost of the trip is provisionally £645 which includes flights and transfers in the UK and Spain, 3 nights and 4 days full board accommodation in a hotel, a day in Barcelona where we will see some of the city’s amazing sights, including the Park Güell, the Sagrada Familia, the magic fountains and Las Ramblas. Students will also get to try tapas in a local restaurant. Finally, the price also includes entry to the theme park, Port Aventura.

In order to travel students must have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). The medical insurance cards can be obtained online if you do not already have one. Pupils who are full UK citizens will be able to travel on our group passport. Pupils who are not of British nationality will need a valid passport (and if necessary a visa) in order to travel.

Places are available to all students in year 8 who are studying Spanish only. Reservation of a place on this trip is dependent upon the continued good behaviour and attitude of your child. Due to the nature of the trip and safety regulations, only students who can be trusted to behave impeccably will be allowed to go.

There are a maximum of 20 places available and these places will be offered on a first come first served basis.  Students who are not initially selected will be listed as reserves. Unsuccessful students will have their deposits returned.

We ask that all payments are paid through the Parentpay system as this reduces the risk for students bringing large amounts of cash into school. You can log into Parentpay at using your unique login and password. If you have any problems with Parentpay, please contact Miss Tait at for help making sure you include your child’s name, D.O.B and form group in the email

If you wish your child to be considered, please complete and submit the reply form at the bottom of this page as soon as possible please.  A non-refundable deposit of £50 will be required to be paid via the Parentay on-line payment system by Tuesday 6th November.  Please do not send the deposit into school with your son/daughter.

When you submit the reply slip below the information will be sent to us, we will process and add your child to the trip in Parent Pay.  Please allow 24 hours for this to happen, longer if it is a weekend or holidays.

If your child is successful in gaining a place, but then has to withdraw, any money paid can only be returned if this is due to exceptional circumstances or his/her place is filled by another student.

Parents who can prove they are in receipt of the following benefits will be exempt from paying the cost of board and lodgings for educational trips within the school term:

  • Income Support;
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance;
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
  • Child Tax Credit, provided that Working Tax Credit is not also received and the family’s income (as assessed by the Inland Revenue) does not exceed £16,190 (FY 2017-2018);
  • Guarantee element of State Pension Credit.
