If it is your first child moving from Primary to EMS we understand this can be a daunting prospect and a time of uncertainty.  We’ve decided to put together an area of the website that should have most of the information you need.

Year 6 Parent Induction Evening – Wednesday 4th July

This evening is held in St. Anne’s Hall in the Main School building.  It starts at 6pm.  It is really important that someone attends for your child. As there will be a large number of people attending we would ask that students do not attend this meeting as it would be difficult to accommodate all parents and children in the Main Hall. The evening is an opportunity to meet your child’s tutor and other key staff. We will also be sharing key information and completing key proformas and documentation.

Year 6 Induction Week

On Monday 9th July, Wednesday 11th July, Thursday 12th July and Friday 13th July students who attend our Catholic feeder primaries will be collected from their primary school at 9.00 am and transported to English Martyrs.  On Tuesday 10th July they will be collected from their primary schools at 9.45 a.m.  Buses will then pick them up from English Martyrs at 2 pm to take them back to their primary schools to enable you to collect them up at the usual time.  Students who attend non-feeder schools should be brought to English Martyrs main reception for 9.15 am on Monday 9th July, Wednesday 11th July, Thursday 12th July and Friday 13th July and at 10.00 a.m. on Tuesday 10th July.  The students should be collected from the same place at 2.00 p.m.  All students should attend in their normal Primary School uniform. Lunch will be provided by us on those days, but if your child has any particular dietary needs/allergies etc. please let us know.


Once you know your child’s/children’s house, you can order uniform.  We recommend you come to one of the first three pop up shops to order the compulsory items as we’ve managed to get you a discount!  Details on the picture.

Our suppliers are on hand with plenty of items for you to try on.  We can’t tell you an absolute cost as the items vary in price depending on the size you order.

If you don’t want to come to one of the events then you can order in other ways.

Log onto www.trutexdirect.com and register using our schools LEA code: LEA01006SC. This will take you to the English Martyrs school uniform page, where you can see all items of our school uniform. Keep In Touch! – The Parent App & Social Media

Since last summer we have been working hard streamlining and improving communication.  We have introduced a new school website, are extremely active on social media channels (details on the picture), and now we are excited to introduce our Parent App.

Available on all smart phones and tablets we use it to push all key information / school reports direct to you.  The good news is you can set this up now!  Click Here to find full instructions of how to download and setup the App and to watch a demo video of its current features.

When you arrive in September we will issue every parent with an individual ID and PIN code which will link you to your children in the app.  From there you can monitor your child’s attendance and behaviour whenever you wish.  There’s a direct link to Parent Pay, the system we use for paying for meals and trips and we have just launched the latest set of student progress reviews through it. The App is synced with our systems at around 5:30pm each evening bringing you everything you need to know on a daily basis.

It’s getting better all the time! The App is essential for at least one parent in each household.

The School Day

The first day of the new term in September is Wednesday 5th September.  The school day begins at 8:45am.  We will update you closer to the time where students should go on the first day back.    Keep an eye on the website and social media channels.  The school day is broken down like this.

School Transport

School Meals

The company who look after our catering is “Catering Provider of the Year 2017” Mellors. We have been working with them in school for a couple of years now.  Main meals run on a three week rotation and there are plenty of other options available. Payment System

All cheques for school lunches should now be made payable to Mellors. Money must be put onto students account before buying a meal. This can be done in one of three ways:

  1. Putting coins into a machine on the wall in school. The machine will take £2, £1, 50p, 20p and 10p coins.
  2. Cheque (payable to Mellors) or notes handed in at the desk in the Dining Hall.
  3. Online at www.Parentpay.com – details of your Username and Password for this system will be issued to you by our finance team.

Money can be paid in periodically at your own convenience but we would suggest that you credit the account with enough funds to last a week or a month. This means that students do not need to carry cash every day.

There’s plenty of tasty treats to be had each day!  Year 7 are always on middle lunch on their own for the first year at EMS.  So their dinner time will be 12:55pm – 1:25pm

Don’t Buy Microsoft Office – we give you it for FREE

At EMS we do everything we can to give our students every possible resource available to enhance their learning and progress.

With this in mind, we have upgraded our Office365 licencing to allow you to download the Microsoft Office Suite at home for free.  No catches, totally free!

Students won’t be able to do this until they have joined in September and got their computer login details – but after that they can install Word, Powerpoint, Excel etc on up to five devices and use completely free until such time they leave EMS.

Don’t Worry

Our final piece of advice is Don’t Worry.

The transition will be less stressful than you imagine. It’s a really big place and a big change but all of our staff are on hand to help and guide them every step of the way.  Before you know it, they will be completing their seven year journey and leaving us in Year 13.
