At the beginning of this most important year in the education of our Year 10 students, we are writing to invite you to our Year 10 Parents Information Evening which this year will be held on Thursday 13th September, commencing at 6.00 p.m. in St. Anne’s Hall. As a parent you will be aware of the regularity of changes in education and we believe it is vital that parents understand how GCSE grades are now graded numerically (1-9) across all subjects; it is also an opportunity for us to keep you up to date with the requirements and expectations as we work together to maximise the success of all our students.
We have already visited all Year 10 students in their forms on their first day and we have had an assembly for them to help focus their minds at this time. Our chances of helping them to succeed will be greatly enhanced by a strong partnership with parents and carers where everyone is aware of how we can best assist our young people. The partnership is always at its best when all parties have a solid level of awareness of responsibilities and where good communication exists.
The School and Sixth Form College again recorded excellent results this summer. We continue to be well above local and national averages on the DfE performance tables and our Progress 8 Value-Added score is the best it has been in years. The results have improved on all measures compared to 2017 with the students collectively achieving a total of forty-eight grade 9s (or A* in the old grading system) and more than 1 in 5 of the total grades awarded were grade 7-9 (or A / A* in previous years).
At EMS6, there were yet again some amazing results. The overall pass rate at A Level was 99% across all 28 subjects offering examinations with 25 securing a pass rate of 100%. The number of students gaining an A*-C grade was 72%.
This success comes about by working together. This Thursday there will be a variety of pastoral and departmental staff; including Maths, English and Science in attendance. They will be on hand to discuss any issues or concerns you may have and to clarify any of the information which will be given on the night. We very much hope you are able to attend this evening which is for parents and carers only; students should not attend. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for your support this year and look forward to seeing you on the night.
