In June, a group of year nine students completed the Sports Leaders UK Level 1 Sports Leadership Award. The aim of the award is for students to develop vital life skills such as teamwork, communication, planning and organisation through sport, and receive a formally recognised qualification.

The award involved 36 hours of both guided and peer-to-peer learning. Topics covered included sessions such as “What makes a good leader?”, “How to effectively work in a team” and “How to become a good leader”.

The course culminated in students delivering physical activity sessions to groups of children in our feeder primary schools as well as organising and delivering a primary schools athletics event.

Thomas Holvey, Amelia McLeod and Katherine Mulvey received the Spirit of Leadership awards for displaying particular excellence in leadership. (pictured left)
