On Thursday 29th November 2018, we welcomed Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant to school for a chat with Mr Hammond, a quick tour and to meet some of our students from the Music & Performing Arts Department.

Mrs Sue Snowdon, the Lord-Lieutenant of County Durham, had invited one of our Sixth Form students, Jake Haygarth, to play at her dinner in October which was held in Hartlepool.  When a couple of her performers had to pull out, we filled the gap with James Ellingford and Emily Barnard attending to perform on the evening too.

Mrs Snowdon was extremely impressed by our student’s performances and wanted to visit the school to find out more.  We arranged for some of the cast of our recent musical Oliver to meet her in the school chapel and perform a couple of pieces from the production.

Year 7 student, Daniel Bulley, was up first and sang Where is Love? and he was followed by Year 11 student, Rose Allen, who sang As Long As He Needs Me as Nancy, both performing as the characters they portrayed in the production.

Catherine, Jake, James and Emily were all on hand also to greet Mrs Snowdon and present her with a copy of the programme from the show and speak to her about their ambitions within music and performing arts.

We thank Mrs Snowdon for taking time from her busy schedule to visit us and hopefully we will see her again at EMS.
