English Martyrs School and Sixth Form College are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results. Standards have improved for a second year running. With 73% of grades at C (or new grade 4) compared with 65% last year.

Two thirds of the cohort secured at least a grade 4 in both English and Maths. 8 students secured the new grade 9 – reserved for the top 2-3% nationally. There were many phenomenal individual performances. Czarnelle Martin secured 2 grade 9’s, a grade 8, 5 A*’s and 2 A’s. Paul Lee gained a grade 9, 6 A*’s, a grade A and 2 grade 6’s. Kate Adamson achieved 7 A*’s, a grade 8, two grade 7’s and an A. Diego Bautista attained a grade 9, 4 A*’s, and 2 Distinctions.

Headteacher, Stephen Hammond, said he was proud of what the students had achieved. He said: “I am very proud of the many success stories that we can see here at the school. There has been a great deal of national debate about making GCSEs ever harder, and to see our students with their wide range of abilities continuing to achieve highly is a real credit to them”.

“As ever, we will be looking to improve further next year, but this is a chance to say well done to all those who now set of to the next stage of their lives with a firm foundation in place.”
